Bihar Liquor Ban: Seven Dead In Gopalganj After Consuming Spurious Liquor

New Delhi: Seven persons died in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Monday after consuming spurious liquor which led to chaos in the village where total prohibition is in place.
According to the information surfaced, many people including Devendra Sharma and Ramesh Mahto, residents of Basahan village of Baikunthpur police station area, had consumed alcohol together on Friday evening, after which everyone's health started deteriorating as the night progressed. By Saturday morning, four people had died and by Sunday evening, the death toll increased to seven.

Ramchandra Sharma, the father of the deceased Devendra Sharma and Pramila Devi, wife of Ramesh Mahto, said that both had come home after consuming alcohol in the night, after which they were taken to the local hospital for treatment, where they died. At the same time, Devendra Sharma's father Ramchandra Sharma has accused the local chief and the police of forcibly pressurizing him to say that he did not die due to alcohol by taking a thumb impression.
Jaikishore Yadav, 35, of Sonwalia Kodar village, died after drinking alcohol. The sister of the deceased, Poonam Devi alleged that the Baikunthpur police reached the house and asked where the liquor was being sold. At the same time, there has also been a threat of sending him to jail for speaking too much.
At the same time, Ramchandra Sharma, father of deceased Devendra Sharma, resident of Basahan village of Baikunthpur, has also received threats if he says anything related to the matter. The local head of the village has reportedly taken thumb impressions in the presence of the police. At the same time, the pressure was being made again and again to tell about death due to illness instead of alcohol. Ramchandra Sharma said that his son used to do furniture work. After the death of seven people due to alcohol, the district administration came into alert mode. On the instructions of DM Nawal Kishore Chaudhary, the administration team under the leadership of Sadar SDO Pradeep Kumar and SDPO Sanjeev Kumar is investigating at the spot. The DM said that after the news came to light, a team was sent and an investigation was conducted, in which all the people said that they died of the disease. The DM has denied the death due to alcohol, stating that it was a natural death.
