Bengal Panchayat Polls: Acting Like BJP Spokesperson, Says TMC On Guv’s Decision To Open 'Peace Room'
Trinamool Congress has hit out at West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose for opening a 'Peace Room' in the state. The party said the Governor is acting like a BJP spokesperson.
TMC has lashed out at the West Bengal Governor for his decision to open a 'Peace Room' in the state in view of violence ahead of the Panchayat elections. TMC MP Santanu Sen said that the Governor is acting like his predecessor Jagdeep Dhankhar. Sen added that Bose has started acting as a spokesperson and representative of BJP. The remarks came after the Governor opened a 'Peace Room' in Rajbhavan in Kolkata to address public grievances. The Peace Room will forward the grievance to the Governor and State Election Commissioner for proper redressal.
Responding to the decision, Sen said that the incidents of violence occurred only in 3-4 blocks of 341. He said that law and order come under Election Commission after polls have are announced and Governor has no role in it.
"...Out of the 341 blocks in West Bengal, there are barely 3-4 blocks where such incidents occurred...Law & order comes under Election Commission after polls are announced. Neither Governor nor anyone else is above the law...This 'Peace Room' is not required in West Bengal. He can't do this at the time of elections. It seems that gradually, this Governor has started following his predecessor Jagdeep Dhankhar & has started acting as a spokesperson & representative of BJP," he told ANI.

On Sunday, TMC MP Saugata Roy voiced the same concern and said that the Governor has no role to play once the polls have been announced. Roy said that it is the responsibility of the State Election Commission to look into cases of election-related violence.
Talking to news agency ANI, the TMC MP said that three of his party workers have also been killed in the arson and violence in the state. He said that law and order is under the State government and the Governor has no role in it.
"3 people from TMC have been killed...Law& order is under state govt, it's not Governor's work. It's the work of the State Election Commissioner to look after the poll violence. Governor has no role to play after polls are announced," he told ANI.
