Women's World Boxing Championships: Lovlina Borgohain, Saweety Boora Seal Place In Gold Medal Bout
Lovlina Borgohain beat Li Qian while Saweety overcame Emma-Sue Greentree to proceed to the Gold Medal bout in the Women's World Boxing Championships in Delhi.
New Delhi: The Indian contingent continued its impressive performance at the Women's World Boxing Championships in the national capital as two more boxers made their way into the finals on Thursday. While Lovlina Borgohain beat Li Qian of China in the 75 kg category semifinal to guarantee the country of another silver, Saweety Boora handed Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree to seal a place in the final of the 81 kg category.
In a clash between two Olympic Medallists, Lovlina got the better of her Chinese opponent Li Qian 4-1 on a split decision while Saweety overcame her Australian opponent 4-3 again on a split decision. Their victories add to India's assured silver medal tally with Nikhat Zareen and Nitu Ghanghas having already secured a place in the gold medal bout in the 50 kg and the 48 kg category. Nikhat beat Ingrit Valencia of Colombia in the 50 kg semifinal through a unanimous 5-0 decision after Nitu started India's day off with a win over Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan through a split decision 5-2 going in her favour.

India will now have chance to return with four gold medals from this edition of the Women's World Boxing Championships at their home. In total, India sits at the number four position in the Women's World Boxing medals tally (all seasons combined). They have won 39 medals to date including 10 golds, 8 medals and 21 bronze. Russia with 60 medals including 28 golds is at the top of this list.

MC Mary Kom is the world's most successful individual pugilist in the tournament ever having won a total of 8 medals including 6 gold, 1 silver and a bronze.
With Nikhat having sealed a gold medal in the previous edition, she will be in with a chance to bag back-to-back golds in the World Championships.
