T20 World Cup: Pacer Jasprit Bumrah To Travel Australia With Indian Team – Reports

Rohit Sharma-led India is currently playing a three-match T20 series against South Africa.

Indian cricket team's speedster Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia is in major doubt after he sustained a back injury on the eve of the India vs South Africa T20 series.  Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly revealed that the Indian team management is still hopeful of Bumrah getting fit in time for T20 WC 2022 in Australia. The former India skipper asserted that Bumrah 'is still not ruled out of T20 World Cup yet.'

"Jasprit Bumrah is still not ruled out of T20 World Cup yet. The World Cup is still quite some time away. Let's not jump the gun," said Ganguly to Rev Sports.  The medical team of BCCI has not ruled him out yet from the T20 World Cup. He is likely to travel to Australia with the Men in Blue.

Earlier, it was announced that he will miss the T20 World Cup but the scan reports disclosed that he could be available in four to six weeks of time. A senior BCCI official told InsideSport, “Bumrah needs rest as that is the best medicine for a back injury. For now, he will be in touch with the NCA medical staff. Nitin is directly overseeing his recovery. We are not ruling him out of World Cup completely. He will travel with the team to Australia and continue his recovery there. We have time till October 15 to make changes”.

"Siraj, Shami, and Deepak will be traveling with the squad besides the players named in the reserves. He will continue to recover in Brisbane while we camp. If Jasprit gets better, he will remain in the squad. Otherwise, we will take a call accordingly. For now, he has an injury concern but is not ruled out," the official added.

Rohit Sharma-led India is currently playing a three-match T20 series against South Africa. India defeated Proteas in the series opener to take a 1-0 lead, while India vs South Africa 2nd T20 International will be played in Assam's Guwahati on October 2 and Ind vs SA 3rd T20 International will be held in Indore on October 4. After this, the Indian team will fly for the T20 World Cup 2022 on October 5.
