Stokes, Roland-Jones put England in control of Oval Test
London [England], July 28 (ANI): All-rounder Ben Stokes scored a brilliant hundred as England posted 353 runs in their first innings of the third Test against South Africa at the Oval on Friday.
Stokes secured his fifth Test century in spectacular style with successive sixes off South Africa's left-arm Keshav Maharaj on Day Two of the Test match. His 153-ball inning was studded with 9 fours and 4 sixes.
Earlier, starting the day at 171-4, overnight batsman Alastair Cook got out on 88, missing on a well deserved ton.
However, Stokes along with England's lower order, made sure Cook's effort did not go in vain and helped his side post a decent first inning score in what is Oval's 100 Test.
At the time of reporting, South Africa were reeling at 62-7, with debutant Toby Roland-Jones wreaking havoc on the Proteas batters. Alongside him, James Anderson took two wickets while Stokes also chipped in with a wicket. (ANI)
