“The siege is over. Your bastion has fallen. Aragalaya and people power has won. Please have the dignity to resign now ! #GoHomeGota,” Jayasuriya said in another tweet.

Mass protests have been going on for several months in Sri Lanka amid the economic crisis. A few weeks ago, demonstrators had marched towards the house of Mahinda Rajapaksa, the country's former prime minister and Gotabaya's brother, which led to a fierce confrontation between security personnel and protestors.
