Sukant Kadam Falls Short In Bronze Medal Match At Paris Paralympics 2024, Loses To Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan
Sukant Kadam went down against Indonesia's Fredy Setiawan in straight sets in the bronze medal match of the Men's Singles SL4 category at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
Indian para-badminton player Sukant Kadam missed out on a bronze medal in the Men's Singles SL4 category at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on September 2 (Monday). Kadam was defeated by Indonesia's Fredy Setiawan in straight sets in the bronze medal match, falling short of securing a podium finish. The final scoreline read 17-21, 18-21.
Coming to the first game of the match, Kadam fought valliantly in the closely-contested game but went down to the Indonesian 17-21 in the end. The second game also saw some hard-fought performance but Kadam eventually went down against the Indonesian 18-21, thus resulting in his straight-sets defeat.

Kadam Vows To Come Back Stronger In LA Olympics 2028
After the bronze medal match defeat, Kadam took to his official social media handle of X (formerly Twitter) and expressed apologies for his defeat to his supporters. In the post, he thanked the Sports Authority of India, Paralympic Committee of India, Badminton Association of India, OGQ and the Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy. He also pledged to come back stronger in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.

Earlier in the competition, Sukant Kadam faced a semifinal defeat at the hands of fellow Indian Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, who won in straight games with scores of 21-17, 21-12.
Notably, Suhas Yathiraj faced France's Lucas Mazur in the gold medal match at the Paralympics 2024 but went down against the local champion in straight sets to settle for the silver medal. The final defeat for Yathiraj was reminicent of Tokyo Games as he faced the similar fate their, winning silver after Mazur defeated him to bag the gold medal.
