Sarabjot Singh: Ambala's Shooting Sensation Who Helped India Bag Its Second Bronze In Paris Olympics 2024
Sarabjot Singh and Manu Bhaker doubled India's medal tally in Paris Olympics 2024 by winning the contingent's second bronze medal.
Sarabjot Singh, Paris 2024 Olympics: Sarabjot Singh may have missed out on qualifying for the final in the men's 10m air pistol event but when he got a second chance at a medal, along with Manu Bhaker in the mixed team event of the 10m air pistol shooting, he ensured that he did not return empty handed.
Bhaker and Sarabjot helped India clinch a bronze medal after falling short of a place in the gold medal match. They may have lost the opening round but came back from behind to take a massive lead and even though there were a few nervy moments towards the end, Sarabjot and Bhaker had done enough to flag the bronze.
Sarabjot Singh Background & Achievements
Sarabjot Singh hails from a family of farmers. Even though he has been a high achiever in the sport, he does not tend to wear an air about him, as those who know him personally suggest. He belongs to Ambala in Punjab. The road to Paris Olympics 2024 bronze hasn't been an overnight one for the 22-year-old shooter, born in September 2001.
Sarabjot won a gold medal at the 2019 Junior World Championship. He even bagged the team gold at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou. In addition, he had the bronze medal to his credit in the individual event at the 2023 Asian Championships.
Sarabjot's achievements is not only a personal redemption but a redemption of sorts for the sport of shooting where India had gone medalless in the previous two editions of the Olympic games. First Bhaker brough the drought and now the duo of Bhaker and Sarabjot have done India produer.
India remain in contention for more medals in shooting and for them to surpass their best-ever tally of 7, shooting needed to come good. And come good it has.
