Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Paris Olympics 2024 opening ceremony.
Background
Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony Live Updates: The French Capital is all set to host a grand opening ceremony of the world's biggest sports competition on Friday (July 26). Athletes, thousands in numbers, will all sail through the central Paris, in an opening ceremony like never before.
It is the first time that the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games are set to take place outside of a stadium and the first time a parade of nations, which is usually the talking point in an Olympics opening ceremony, is set to happen on a river. The first in the parade will be Greece, which is what the tradition is, courtesy of the European nation being the first to host the Olympics thousands of years ago.
Even the birth of the modern Olympic Games happened there and it is to recognise Greece as the birth place of Olympics, they go first in the parade of nations. The Order Of The Nations will then be followed alphabetically but in the language of the host nation. The last to go will be the host nation France who will be preceded by United States of America (USA) as they are the hosts of the next Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles. For India, who will go 84th in the Parade Of Nations, it will be PV Sindhu and Achanta Sharath Kamal who will be the flagbearers.
Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony is all set to take place in front of over 3,00, 000 fans with several dignitaries expected to be in attendance. This will be unlike any other opening ceremony of Olympics ever witnessed and definitely in sharp contrast to the Tokyo 2020 Games which was delayed by a year and played in 2021 in a world which was battling the Coronavirus pandemic, meaning no fans were allowed to cheer for the athletes.
