Gorakhpur University Announces Fellowship In The Name Of Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra | Tokyo2020
Gorakhpur University will grant fellowships in the name of Neeraj Chopra and Guru Shri Gorakshnath. Under the fellowship several types of facilities will also be provided to the players.
Gorakhpur DDU University: Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal in the javelin throw at Tokyo Olympics is being showered with an array of prizes. At the same time, Deen Dayal Gorakhpur University has also announced a fellowship in the name of the golden boy Neeraj Chopra. The University will also grant a fellowship in the name of Mahayogi Guru Shri Gorakshnath along with all the facilities to the players for showcasing their performance at an international level.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajesh Singh also stated that sports activities should be encouraged and increased on the University campus. He said that there are several universities like Gorakhpur University in our country. About 85 to 90 percent of the students receive their degrees from these universities. These universities are not well equipped with the advanced facilities required for sports. Big universities like DU and BHU along with IIT, IIM, and Central universities have huge funds with them.
The Vice-Chancellor further added that our country has no dearth of talented players but the facilities are not sufficient everywhere. He said that there is a need to further develop this infrastructure in the university system. All the students who come to the university can have direct access to these advantages.
These facilities will be provided
The Vice-Chancellor said that the Gorakhpur University has announced a fellowship owing to the atmosphere around. He said that a fellowship has been established in the name of golden boy Neeraj Chopra. For this, they will expend up to Rs 5 lakhs annually. He also stated that children will be given fellowships, money, food, kits.
Under another fellowship Rs 1 lakh is to be given.
The Vice-Chancellor said that a second fellowship has been announced for 100 children in the name of Guru Shri Gorakshnath. Every student who is selected through it will be awarded Rs 1 lakh. It includes their food, education, and kits that the university can provide throughout the year. About 230 applications have been received for 100 seats. The 230 applications includes national and international players as well. A screening committee is at work.
Swimming pool to be built
Under the proposal sent through 'Khelo India', an Olympic-sized swimming pool of 50 by 25 meters will be constructed in the playground opposite Diksha Bhavan. It will have many lanes, so the players will be able to prepare themselves better. It will cost Rs 5.50 crore. The hockey turf to be built near the sports complex will cost Rs 8.6 crores. Lights will be arranged all around so that the match can be held even at night.
