Novak Djokovic Is The Wimbledon Champion! Equals Nadal & Federer's Record Of 20 Grand Slams
Not many people would have thought in 2010 that Novak Djokovic would be equalling Federer and Nadal's record but it has happened. Will Djokovic lead the GOAT race?
London: Novak Djokovic has done it! He has won his sixth Wimbledon title and the 20th grand slam. The Serbian has come on level terms with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in terms of the number of grand slams won.
The 34-year-old defeated Matteo Berrettini of Italy in four sets; 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3. Djokovic had dropped the first set but the never say die attitude of World no. 1 is something else. It is not easy to stage a comeback on regular occasions as Novak does, but he does it with ease.
On winning, Novak said, "When I was a little boy, I used to make the Wimbledon trophy out of materials in my room, imagining I'd be standing here one day." Djokovic has come a long way!
Not many people would have thought in 2010 that Novak Djokovic would be equalling Federer and Nadal's record but it has happened and it took Djokovic just 13 years to reach the milestone of 20 grand slam titles.
Novak's stellar journey started when he won a Gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. After that, there was no looking back. He was criticised for winning only on hard courts but Djoko has proven his critics wrong by winning the French Open and the most recent Wimbledon title.
This is his sixth Wimbledon title, he has won the English grand slam in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and now in 2021.
Considering Novak is the youngest among Federer and Nadal, he has the opportunity of surpassing the two giants and perhaps claim himself as the G.O.A.T i.e. The Greatest Of All Time.
