The men's javelin throw event in which Neeraj Chopra will be competing will begin past midnight India time but there is no doubt that hardcore Indian sports fans will be wide awake in the hope of a medal as arguably one of India's all time great athletes takes field, battling a niggle and hoping to give his best throw.
Arshad Nadeem, the man who beat Neeraj Chopra to bag the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, will not be part of the Lausanne Diamond League. However, that does not mean there won't be any competition for him at the Lausanne Diamond League with the likes of Anderson Peters, Jakub Vadlejch and Julian Weber among others set to feature in the starting list along with Neeraj. All these throwers had a great evening in Paris which suggests this could be a great fight for the gold medal on the cards in Switzerland.
Neeraj Chopra is fresh of two of his season best throws in Paris Olympics. One came in the qualification round while the other of 89.45 metres, the second best throw of his career, bagged him a silver medal in the French Capital. The 90-metres mark has, however, cotinued to elude him and he has gone on record saying 'Let's leave it to the Gods.'
Will India's golden boy be able to breach that mark in this event amid his injury crisis? We shall find out over the course of the next few hours.
