'Should We Leave The Medals...': Olympian Srihari Nataraj Slams Airline For 'Misbehavior'

Olympian Srihari Natraj ended his campaign at the National Games in a blaze of glory, winning his sixth gold medal in swimming overall.

New Delhi: Olympian Srihari Nataraj, regarded as one of the best swimmers in Indian sporting spectrum, on Monday, took to Twitter to post a series of tweets, detailing how Indigo Airlines allegedly mistreated him and his teammates. As per Srihari's tweets, Indigo staff behaved rudely with him and his teammates and also charged a hefty amount for excess baggage, which also included medals they won at the National Games. The 21-year-old in his tweets said the way Indigo Airlines staff treated them was the main issue that miffed him.

Srihari Natraj ended his campaign at the National Games in a blaze of glory, winning his sixth gold medal in swimming overall. The Karnataka-born secured first place in the men's 100m freestyle event at Gujarat's Sardar Patel Aquatics Complex on Saturday. Natraj secured a gold medal with a time of 50.41 seconds to create a national record, also his second yellow medal in freestyle swimming.

In a series of tweets on Monday morning, Nataraj said, "I was returning from the National Games held in Gujarat, and the staff not only behaved badly, but also charged us a hefty amount for excess baggage which was the medals and goodies that we athletes had won."

"Honestly, the amount wasn't an issue, it's the way they treated me and my teammates. Should we leave the medals we win back at the venue? @IndiGo6E," Nataraj questioned the airlines.

Meanwhile, Sajan Prakash from Kerala, one of the senior swimmers, won five gold, two silver and one bronze at National Games. On Saturday, Srihari Natraj topped the 100m freestyle competition while Sajan could only finish seventh. Nataraja won two gold medals in freestyle sprint, two gold in backstroke besides two gold medals for the relay team of Karnataka.
