Muralitharan Health Update: Sri Lankan Legend Undergoes Angioplasty In Chennai; Condition Remains 'Well'

Muralitharan Health Update: The former cricketer is doing fine after the procedure and it is being reported that this was a planned process and not an emergency one.

Legendary Sri Lankan off-spinner and part of the coaching staff of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Muttiah Muralitharan went under angioplasty procedure in Chennai at Apollo Hospital on Sunday.

The former cricketer is doing fine after the procedure and it is being reported that this was a planned process and not an emergency one.

"A blockage was detected at the end of March. So the angioplasty was a routine procedure that was supposed to be conducted. He is doing well," PTI reported.

Muttiah Muralitharan on Friday (April 17) turned 49. 

When Murali decided to hang up his boots from international cricket, he was the leading wicket-taker with 1347 scalps to his name.

Muralitharan took 800 wickets in 133 Test matches, the highest for the format, and 534 wickets in the 350 ODIs, which is also the highest for the format. With the T20 format getting prominence towards his twilight years, he has 13 wickets from 12 T20Is. He was also part of Sri Lanka's ODI World Cup-winning squad in 1996.

Post-retirement, Muralitharan has remained active in the IPL and has been part of Sunrisers Hyderabad coaching staff since 2015.
