New Delhi: Mumbai Police Cyber Cell on Wednesday arrested a man from Hyderabad for giving online rape threats to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's daughter after team India's loss against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021. The accused's name is Ramnagesh Srinivas Akubathini and he has been arrested from Hyderabad. 23-year-old Ramnagesh is a software engineer and worked for a food delivery app earlier.
Team India's star paceman Mohammed Shami was subjected to online abuse after India's T20 WC loss against Pakistan. After skipper Virat Kohli extended his support to Shami and called out religious discrimination, now-deleted Twitter account @Criccrazyygirl had issued rape threats to Virat and Anushka Sharma's nine-month-old daughter.

Earlier, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had taken suo-motu cognizance on reports of online rape threats to Virat Kohli's daughter, Vamika Kohli.
As per reports, DCW had asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police to provide them with a copy of the First Information Report (FIR), details of the accused identified and arrested, and detailed action taken report by November 8, 2021. Issuing a notice to the Delhi Police, DCW had described the online trolling of Virat Kohli and his family as a “serious matter” and asked for “immediate attention.”
In a blistering reply to those who were blaming Shami for India's defeat against Pakistan, Kohli had said, "To me, attacking someone over religion is the most, I would say, the pathetic thing that one can do. Everyone has the right to express their opinion and what they feel about a particular situation. I have never ever thought of discriminating against anyone over their religion and that is a very sacred and personal thing to every human being."
