Live Score Ind vs Aus 1st Test Day 1 Pune: Australia suffer top-order collapse

#WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Mitchell Marsh, OUT lbw b Ravindra Jadeja. Australia have lost their fifth wicket.

#WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb, OUT lbw b Ravindra Jadeja. Australia have lost their third wicket.

Peter Handscomb is the new man in.

46.4 overs: Jayant Yadav to Shaun Marsh, OUT! Jayant Yadav gets his man! And he's not overstepped this time! Flighted ball around leg, Marsh gets down to sweep but there is not enough space to work with. The ball goes off the pads, then hits the splice of the bat and then lobs up towards Kohli at leg slip who takes a simple catch. He kept himself there a couple of deliveries ago and it has paid off. They all appeal and umpire gives it out. My colleague says, if the umpire is Richard Kettleborough and if he raises his finger then even the God won't help you. Shaun Marsh trudges back!

We are back for the afternoon session. It will be Steven Smith and Shaun Marsh to continue with the bat. Ravindra Jadeja to start things off with the ball

DAY 1, SESSION 2

However, Renshaw too walked off after Warner was dismissed. Still not sure what has happened to him. He is retired ill and that made way for two new batsmen - Smith and S. Marsh. They only wanted to see off the session and hence were very much in the blocking zone. So, with the pitch turning immensely and the odd ball keeping low, let's see if the Aussies can tackle it in the second session. The Indians would be looking to come out hard after a tough opening session. Join us in a while to see how things unfold...

The young Renshaw was a bit aggressive in his approach as he didn't let Jadeja settle. Jayant Yadav extracted a good amount of turn and bounce and could have gotten the better of Warner had he not overstepped. In the process, the Indians even lost the review and then just before lunch, Kohli brought Umesh Yadav into the attack who drew first blood.

A superb start for the Aussies in the Tests series! They could have very well dragged this session in their kitty but the wicket of Warner has just settled it in both the teams' favour. Smith won a good toss and would be happy with what happened next. The Aussie openers, Warner and Renshaw played with a calm head and used their feets well to negotiate the spinners.

#LUNCH

The Aussie skipper, Steven Smith walks in next, replacing Warner! There is some issue out in the middle. Renshaw is not feeling well it seems and hence is wanting to go off the field. He confers with the umpire and then finally goes off. So, certainly Aussies have lost both their openers in tandem- Warner is bowled and Renshaw is retired ill. Shaun Marsh joins his skipper in the middle now...

The Aussie skipper, Steven Smith walks in next, replacing Warner!

#Wicket Umesh Yadav to David Warner, OUT b Umesh Yadav. Australia have lost their first wicket.

25 overs: Australia 78/0. Matt Renshaw 35(84), David Warner 36(67)

10 overs: Australia 27/0. Matt Renshaw 12(41), David Warner 15(19)

We have seen Ashwin leading the bowling attack in ODI's and T20's but Virat Kohli wasting no time in Test match too. Immediately brings on his major asset to bowl. Spin straightaway!

1 over: Australia 4/0. Matt Renshaw 4(6), David Warner 0(0)

0.1 over: Ishant Sharma to Matt Renshaw, FOUR! Edged and Australia are away! Sharma hurls in a length ball just around the off stump channel, it stays low and moves away a bit, Renshaw tries to poke at it and ends up getting a thick outside edge past second slip and the gully fielder for a boundary. Though it came off the edge but that should ease some nerves of the batsman.

Virat Kohli wanted to bat first. Adds they have lost the toss in the past but still have won the games so this would keep them in contention. They would look this as another challenge.

IND XI: Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane,Wriddhiman Saha, R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma

TOSS - Virat Kohli spins the coin. Steven Smith calls Heads. It is a Head. AUSTRALIA WILL BAT!

Test debut for Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune.

Hello and Welcome to the live coverage of the 1st Test match between India and Australia

On a fairytale 19-match unbeaten streak, India would seek extension of their incredible dominance on home turf when they clash against an aggressive Australia in the four-Test series, beginning here on Thursday.

The series against the Steve Smith-led side is the fourth and last home series of the 2016-17 season for India, who have conjured up emphatic victories over New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0) and Bangladesh (one-off Test).

India are going into the rubber, seeking their seventh successive series win going back to the three-Test away series against Sri Lanka in 2015.

There are several factors in India's stupendous run, chief among those being captain Virat Kohli's phenomenal run with the bat.

The young captain has truly led from the front by notching up four double hundreds.

Kohli is averaging over 80 after accumulating 1457 runs in the last 13 Tests and Australia will need to find ways to curtail his brilliance to stop the Indian Juggernaut.

The other major factor has been the excellent bowling by spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, incidentally the top two bowlers in the ICC rankings.

Off-spinner Ashwin has grabbed 78 wickets in 13 games during the same period with 8 five-fors at an average of justover 24 while left-armer Jadeja has scalped 49 wickets in 10 Tests at just under 25.

The spin twins, who combined forces to rout New Zealand and England, again pose a major threat to the Australians. In addition to these three players' consistent performance, the support from batsmen such as opener Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara and from other bowlers has been invaluable.

The stubborn lower-order batting has often helped the team come out of tricky situations and score big.

As coach Anil Kumble pointed out yesterday, India have not fielded the same eleven during this successful phase due to a variety of reasons including injuries. But each replacement has been bang-on and delivered the goods.

India's unbeaten 19-Test run commenced with a victory in the second Test of the series in Sri Lanka.
