Live Score IND v NZ 3rd Test Day 1: Kohli, Rahane stabilize after early blows

LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs NEW ZEALAND | 3rd TEST | DAY 1

 INDORE

FULL SCORECARD

SESSION 3... India are well poised at the moment to score big and push the Black Caps on the back foot on a track which is providing substantial support to the seamers as well as the spinners. It will be a diffcult task for the Kiwis to come back from here. If the duo of Kohli and Rahane come out tomorrow and counter attack, the visiting side will further slip into a hole. India have dominated the final session big time on the back of Kohli's brilliant ton and Rahane's half century. They have feasted on the Kiwi bowlers and creamed them around with controlled aggression. Both of them ensured that the scoreboard kept ticking around and didn't allow the Kiwi spinners and seamers to settle down. That's century for Virat Kohli! On a length outside off, Kohli camps back and plays it with soft hands towards cover-point. He sets off for a single and the fielder hurls in a direct throw at the bowler's end. He dives full length to get back. There is an appeal from the Kiwis for a run out but Virat looks confident out there. He is about to raise his hands in the air. Has he got his century? It has been referred upstairs. The replays show that the Indian skipper has made the crease. He is not out and finally celebrates. The crowd roars in jubilation and applauds the terrific knock! It has been a classy century and he is overwhelmed! 80 overs: India 229/3. Virat Kohli 86 (165), Ajinkya Rahane 58 (138) 76.1 overs: Fifty come up for Ajinkya Rahane as well. India 216/3. Tossed up outside off, Kohli drives it nicely through the covers for a couple. 50 up for the skipper and it has been a good knock on a testing surface. He has hung in the middle and has got the result. Can he convert it into a big one? SESSION 2..... It was quite an interesting session with the pitch starting to play tricks in the first day itself. India have done well to score 73 runs in 30 overs for the loss of only wicket. The Kiwis begun the session on a bright note as Santner bamboozled Pujara with a beauty and castled his stumps. After that, Kohli and Rahane have fought bravely in the middle with the former getting a bit lucky at times. Jeetan Patel and Mitchell Santner bowled intelligently and varied their pace nicely. They extracted ample amount of assistance from the pitch and made Kohli and Rahane work hard for every run. Henry and Boult also sprinted in and gave it their all. However, the duo of seen the session through and would like to add as much as possible when they come back to bat in the final session. On the other hand, the Black Caps would like to strike early and make a dent. 55 overs: India 147/3. Virat Kohli 44 (101), Ajinkya Rahane 19 (51). 50 overs: India 127/3. Virat Kohli 37 (89), Ajinkya Rahane 6 (33). 45 overs: India 115/3. Virat Kohli 32 (75), Ajinkya Rahane 3 (23) 40 overs: India 110/3. OUT! Bowled 'em! Superb delivery! Tossed up delivery on middle and off, Pujara goes onto his back foot to defend but the ball spins away a touch after landing. Pujara misses it and the ball goes through to disturb the off stump. Pretty good ball, that. Spinners love it when such things happen and Ashwin is shown on the screen, the Indian offie should be tempted to bowl on this wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara b Mitchell Santner 41 (108b 6x4 0x6) 35 overs: India 99/2. Cheteshwar Pujara 41 (103), Virat Kohli 15 (36) 30 overs: India 86/2. Cheteshwar Pujara 33 (82), Virat Kohli 12 (27) We are back for the second session! PUJARA and KOHLI stride out. PATEL to bowl. Here we go..

SESSION 1....

It was an even session and we can say that both sides have shared it. Williamson introduced Jeetan Patel early on and it was an intelligent bit of captaincy. It worked as Patel struck in his first over and sent Vijay back to the hut. Gambhir and Pujara joined hands and stitched together a healthy partnership. Gambhir was looking good out in the middle and was playing with intent and solidity before he played down the wrong line and was rapped LBW by Boult.

26 overs: India 75/2. Chesteshwar Pujara 29 (71), Virat Kohli 7 (14)

25 overs: India 71/2. Cheteshwar Pujara 25 (65), Virat Kohli 7 (14)

20 overs: India 60/2. Cheteshwar Pujara 21 (54), Virat Kohli 0(1) Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir leaves the ground aftera short spell (AP Photo) Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir leaves the ground aftera short spell (AP Photo)

19.6 overs: WICKET! Gambhir departs and Boult does the damage! He was looking good out there and would be disappointed. Fullish length delivery around off, Gambhir looks to defend but plays down the wrong line and is rapped low on the back pad. There is a loud appeal for LBW and the umpire obliges and rules it out. It looked plumb to the naked eye and the replays show that it was quite adjacent. Gautam Gambhir LBW Trent Boult 29 (53b 3x4 2x6)

15 overs: India 51/1. Gautam Gambhir 28 (42), Cheteshwar Pujara 13 (30)

10 overs: India 41/1. Gautam Gambhir 27 (27), Cheteshwar Pujara 4 (15)

5 overs: India 26/1. Gautam Gambhir 16 (11), Cheteshwar Pujara 0 (1)

4.5 overs: WICKET! Change of bowling does the trick! Flighted ball on off, stops a bit, Vijay strides forward and tries to flick but the ball goes off the inside half of the bat and straight to Latham at short leg. Vijay can't believe it. Jeetan Patel gets the early breakthrough. The ball didn't go straight in Latham's hands though, went off the arm first and then into this hands.   Murali Vijay c Tom Latham b Jeetan Patel 10 (18b 2x4 0x6)

1 over: India 2/0. Murali Vijay 1 (6), Gautam Gambhir 0 (0)

The players are out in the middle. GAUTAM GAMBHIR is back and he'll be joined by MURALI VIJAY. TRENT BOULT to steam in first up for New Zealand. Here we go!

INDIA WIN THE TOSS AND ELECT TO BAT! Hello and a warm welcome for the final Test match between India and New Zealand in Indore. With the series already in their kitty, India would look to come out with the intention of a whitewash. The Kiwis will look to come out and give their best shot to salvage some pride. It promises to be an exciting contest between bat and ball. Should be a thrilling game if New Zealand give their best.
