LIVE IND V AUS 4th Test: Chinaman Kuldeep gets Aussies in a fix
LIVE SCORECARD
Young Kuldeep makes the 2nd session his own. Australia 208/6 (Smith 111, Kuldeep 3/41) at tea on Day 1 Ravichandran Ashwin to Steven Smith, OUT! India finally manage to dismiss Smith. Ashwin scalps a very big wicket at the stroke of tea and the crowd is buzzing. Tosses this one around off, Smith looks to defend but the ball straightens a touch and induces an outside edge. Rahane does the rest at first slip. Smith starts walking. Australia: 201/5. Smith 106, Wade 12 Amidst all the Kuldeep frenzy, Smith gets to his 20th Test ton. Stand up and applaud. Australia 185/5Kuldeep Yadav to Glenn Maxwell, OUT! Beaten all ends up! The young lad is wreaking havoc. Yadav loops this one in the line of the stumps, Maxwell plays for the one that comes in but it doesn't and goes onto crash the stumps. Maxwell is absolutely disgruntled. Yadav is ecstatic. Oh, this game of cricket, I tell you. India are right back in the game. Kuldeep gets his third wicket.
Australia: 169/4. Smith 93, Maxwell 1
Kuldeep Yadav to Peter Handscomb, OUT! Well bowled, Kuldeep! Two balls, he got the batsman to drive, this time he gets one to spin back in and it makes the difference. It lands outside off, comes in sharply as Handscomb goes for the drive but is beaten all ends up. The ball goes through him and castles Peter Handscomb. That is a wicket well-earned by the rookie spinner. India have managed to comeback well. There was a puff of dust when the ball landed on the surface, it might be sign of things to come.
Umesh Yadav to Shaun Marsh, OUT! Soft dismissal for Shaun Marsh, unfortunate rather! Umesh slips one on a good length on the stumps, Marsh looks to help it on its way through. The ball though brushes off the edge of the bat and flies through to Saha who takes the catch. Umesh turns around to appeal and the umpire has ruled it out. Another wicket for India, not how they would have liked but they will take it happily.
Kuldeep Yadav to David Warner, OUT! Maiden Test wicket for Kuldeep Yadav thanks to a brilliant catch by Rahane! Lands it outside off, a touch short, Warner thinks - a boundary and goes to cut it. It is too close to cut and the ball goes off the outside edge straight to Ajinkya Rahane at first slip who takes it towards his right. Warner had earlier got a boundary, playing a similar shot, in the very first over of Kuldeep but this time the bowler gets the better of the batsman. That is how the game of cricket is! David Warner has to walk back after a good start and an ideal start for India post lunch.
Australia 140/1. Warner 56, Smith 79
DAY 1 SESSION 2
India would rue the missed chance, Karun Nair was lazy and he dropped Warner on the very first ball of the game. Umesh did get the wicket of Renshaw but that was the only thing that went India's way. All the bowlers barring Ravindra Jadeja looked lost once Smith took the attack to them. India will aim to keep the runs down and hope to strike early after lunch to get back in the game. Join us in a while for the second session of play.
What a thumping start to the Test for Australia! They have scored as many as 131 runs in the first session itself and let India know that things are not going to be as easy as they might have expected to be. Both Smith and Warner have got to their fifties and with conditions ripe for batting, they will want to carry on the good work. While Warner has taken his time after being dropped on the first ball of the game, Smith has been his usual self, scoring at a brisk rate all the while.
Australia 131/1 (Smith 72*, Warner 54) at lunch on Day 1 at Dharamsala
Australia 125/1. Warner 53, Smith 67
Edged but wide. This has been the story of the morning so far. Nevertheless, Warner gets to his first half-century of the series.
And debutant Kuldeep Yadav gets the ball in his hand for the first time. Huge moment for the young man.
Australia 98/1. Warner 28, Smith 65
Steve Smith gets to his half-century. What a counter attacking knock it has been from the Australian captain.
Australia 52/1. Warner 22, Smith 25
Umesh Yadav to Steven Smith, FOUR! Take that! Full and wide outside off, Smith does not miss out and throws his bat at it. The ball flies over extra cover for a boundary. India are not quite sure, where to bowl to Smith right now!
Umesh Yadav to Steven Smith, FOUR! Smith is on his merry way, yet again! Fuller outside off, Smith comes forward and times his push through cover-point. The ball runs through off the outfield and gets to the fence in a jiffy.
Australia 34/1. Warner 21, Smith 8
Australia 10/1. Warner 9, Smith 0
Umesh Yadav to Matt Renshaw, OUT! TIMBER! Fuller in length around off, Renshaw plays outside the line and the ball nips back in. The ball brushes the pad and goes onto disturb the stumps. Umesh strikes for India and that should relax the Indian team. India will want to make most of this conditions. Renshaw has been scoring a lot for Australia and India will be happy to see the back of him, early.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to David Warner, FOUR! Dropped! What a start, would have been a wicket on arrival for Bhuvneshwar! Fuller outside off, Warner goes for the drive away from his body, Karun Nair lunges to his left and grabs at it but cannot hold onto it. The ball runs down to the third man fence. Oh dear, would have been an ideal start for India.
