Virender Sehwag Urges Mumbai Indians Management To Take 'Severe Action On Players'

While Mumbai Indians (MI) still hold a faint hope of making it to IPL 2024 playoffs - a highly unlikely scenario - their chances heavily rely on other results going in their favor.

Former Team India star opener Virender Sehwag criticized Mumbai Indians (MI) management following their recent loss in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. MI faced their eighth defeat of the ongoing IPL 2024 season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

It is all but over for Mumbai Indians now as they are on the brink of elimination! MI, the five-time IPL winners, mathematically, still remain in contention for a spot in IPL 2024 playoffs. However, with just 6 points after three wins from 11 matches, MI are virtually out of IPL 2024 playoffs race.

While Mumbai Indians (MI) still hold a faint hope of making it to IPL 2024 playoffs - a highly unlikely scenario - their chances heavily rely on other results going in their favor. Unfortunately, considering the current form of the other teams, this scenario seems increasingly unlikely for MI.

Sehwag, in his analysis, raised concerns about Mumbai Indians' (MI) batting order. In the recent IPL 2024 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday (May 3), captain Hardik Pandya came in to bat at a surprisingly low position of No. 7, with Tim David following him at No. 8.

"KKR saved Andre Russell; he played only two balls. Mumbai Indians saved Hardik Pandya and Tim David. What did you achieve by doing that?" Sehwag questioned on Cricbuzz. "Are these players that bad that they will get out if they come earlier?"

Sehwag pointed out how successful Hardik Pandya was as a batter while batting at number 4 for Gujarat Titans in last year's IPL. Also, the veteran quashed speculations whether MI is planning for their batting order for 2025 IPL season.

"If you’re thinking about 2025, you should consider who should bat at what place today. How can you think about the future right now?" he argued.

"MI management needs to take severe action on players and ask them what’s happening," Sehwag stated. "The captain, batting coach, bowling coach, and support staff are all at fault here. Owners need to ask strict questions."
