In a historic feat, Punjab Kings stunned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by chasing down a monumental 262-run target in Match 42 of IPL 2024. With this, Punjab Kings achieved the greatest successful run-chase ever witnessed in T20 cricket, ultimately beating hosts Kolkata at Eden Gardens by 8 wickets. The victory propelled PBKS from ninth to eighth position on the IPL 2024 points table. Despite the setback, KKR retained their strong position at the second spot.

In the extraordinary run-chase by PBKS, Jonny Bairstow played a stellar innings of 108* off 48 balls and was supported by valuable cameos from Prabhsimran Singh (20-ball 54 runs), and Shashank Singh (28-ball 68*).
