IPL 2024: List Of Worst Buy By Each Team In IPL 2024 Auction

Here is the list of worst buy made by each franchise during the IPL 2024 Auction.

IPL 2024: The IPL 2024 Auction produced some stellar buys, some shocking buys, and some underrated buys. However there were not so good, or to be precise, some overrated and worst buys made by franchise. Here is a list of the worst buy made by each franchise respectively during the IPL 2024 Auction:

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK): Players bought by CSK are as follows:

  • Rachin Ravindra (Rs. 1.8 crore)
  • Shardul Thakur (Rs. 4 crore)
  • Daryl Mitchell (Rs. 14 crore)
  • Sameer Rizvi (Rs. 8.4 crore)
  • Mustafizur Rahman (Rs. 2 crore)
  • Avinash Rao Aravelly (Rs. 20 lakh)

Worst Buy: Mustafizur Rahman, because the overseas slots will be filled by Devon Conway, Daryll Mitchell, Mahesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana and spinners dominate at Chepaux, and with addition of Rachin Ravindra, 'The Fizz' is unlikely to feature.

2. Mumbai Indians: Players bought by MI are as follows:

  • Gerald Coetzee (Rs 5 crore)
  • Nuwan Thushara (Rs 4.8 crore)
  • Dilshan Madushanka (Rs 4.6 crore)
  • Mohammad Nabi (Rs 1.5 crore)
  • Shreyas Gopal (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Anshul Kamboj (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Naman Dhir (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Shivalik Sharma (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst buy: Mohammad Nabi, because the all-rounder requirement is already filled by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma, and also, Gerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madhushanka will be the prime bowlers for MI as overseas players, the presence of Afghanistani all-rounder is highly unlikely.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Players bought by KKR are as follows:

  • Mitchell Starc (Rs 24.75 crore)
  • Mujeeb Rahman (Rs 2 crore)
  • Sherfane Rutherford (Rs 1.5 crore)
  • Gus Atkinson (Rs 1 crore)
  • Manish Pandey (Rs 50 lakh)
  • K.S. Bharat (Rs 50 lakh)
  • Chetan Sakariya (Rs 50 lakh)
  • Angkrish Raghuvanshi (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Ramandeep Singh (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Sakib Hussain (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst Buy: Gus Atkinson, because the overseas slots will be filled by the irreplacable players in Mitchell Starc, Jason Roy, Andre Russell/Sherfane Rutherford, and the fourth slot will be between Sunil Narine and Mujeeb ul Rahman, given the nature of spin friendly tracks at Eden Gardens.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): Players bought by RCB are as follows:

  • Alzarri Joseph (Rs 11.5 crore)
  • Yash Dayal (Rs 5 crore)
  • Tom Curran (Rs 1.5 crore)
  • Saurav Chauhan (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Lockie Ferguson (Rs 2 crore)
  • Swapnil Singh (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst buy: Yash Dayal, because RCB lack a quality spinner and the overseas slots being filled by Faf Du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell, the acquisition of Alzarri Joseph completes their overseas slots, with Tom Curran as a backup. Now, Siraj is the prime Indian pacer in the lineup and all that RCB lacks is a quality spinner and acquiring a spinner instead of an inconsistent Yash Dayal would have been better.

5. Gujarat Titans (GT): Players bought by GT are as follows:

  • Azmatullah Omarzai (Rs 50 lakh)
  • Umesh Yadav (Rs 5.8 crore)
  • Manav Suthar (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Shahrukh Khan (Rs 7.4 crore)
  • Sushant Mishra (Rs 2.2 crore)
  • Kartik Tyagi (Rs 60 lakh)
  • Spencer Johnson (Rs 10 crore)
  • Robin Minz (Rs 3.6 crore)

Worst Buy: Umesh Yadav, because GT have quality pacers and acquisition of Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai fills their requirements for pacers and given the spin quality of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed, there is hardly any room for a bowler.

6. Rajasthan Royals (RR): Players bought by RR are as follows:

  • Rovman Powell (Rs 7.4 crore)
  • Shubham Dubey (Rs 5.8 crore)
  • Nandre Burger (Rs 50 lakh)
  • Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Rs 40 lakh)
  • Abid Mushtaq (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst Buy: Rovman Powell, because he is an inconsistent performer who is highly unreliable and is a very bad option to play against spin attack. Also, his lack of footwork will make him an easy prey for seamers with movement on the pitch.

7. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): Players bought by LSG are as follows:

  • Shivam Mavi (Rs 6.4 crore)
  • M. Siddharth (Rs 2.4 crore)
  • David Willey (Rs 2 crore)
  • Ashton Turner (Rs 1 crore)
  • Arshin Kulkarni (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Mohd. Arshad Khan (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst Buy: David Willey, because the presence of Mohsin Khan provides a much better left arm pace option and acquisition of Shivam Mavi adds into the pace attack consisting of highly dangerous Mark Wood.

8. Delhi Capitals (DC): Players bought by DC are as follows:

  • Harry Brook (Rs 4 crore)
  • Tristan Stubbs (Rs 50 lakh)
  • Ricky Bhui (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Kumar Kushagra (Rs 7.2 crore)
  • Rasikh Dhar (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Jhye Richardson (Rs 5 crore)
  • Sumit Kumar (Rs 1 crore)
  • Shai Hope (Rs 75 lakh)
  • Swastik Chhikara (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst Buy: Kumar Kushagra, because Delhi has a good quality batting lineup and where they lack is their bowling department, which has only 2-3 performers, and DC could've invested in promising Indian bowling rather than a batter. Also, Stubbs and Hope are excellent buys for the Delhi-based franchise.

9. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): Players bought by SRH are as follows:

  • Pat Cummins (Rs 20.5 crore)
  • Travis Head (Rs 6.8 crore)
  • Jaydev Unadkat (Rs 1.6 crore)
  • Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs 1.5 crore)
  • Akash Singh (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Jhathavedh Subramanyan (Rs 20 lakh)

Worst Buy: Wanindu Hasaranga, because Hasaranga is an excellent bowler but given the fact that SRH already have irreplacable overseas players, the acquisition of Hasaranga just doesn't make any sense because he will hardly have game time.

10. Punjab Kings (PBKS): Players bought by PBKS are as follows:

  • Harshal Patel (Rs 11.75 crore)
  • Chris Woakes (Rs 4.2 crore)
  • Prince Chaudhary (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Tanay Thyagarajan (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Shashank Singh (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Vishwanath Pratap Singh (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Ashutosh Sharma (Rs 20 lakh)
  • Rilee Rossouw (Rs 8 crore)

Worst buy: Rilee Rossouw, because he is 37-years old now and very inconsistent and PBKS could've invested in much much better options such as Josh Inglis, Steve Smith who are proven performers.
