MI vs RR, Match Highlights: Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David Help Mumbai Pull Off Record Chase At Wankhede In 1000th IPL Game
MI vs RR: Tim David scored three sixes off the first three balls off the last over to bag two points.
Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets in a thrilling affair at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rajasthan had posted a massive 212/7 riding on Yashasvi Jaiswal's maiden IPL hundred (124 off 62 balls). In response, MI lost Rohit Sharma early but Suryakumar Yadav's 55 off 29 coupled with Tilak Varma and David Green's knocks helped the five-time champions register a much-needed win.
It was the second last-over thriller of the day in the IPL on Sunday with the equation reading 17 to get off the final 6 balls. However, David showed his class and scored three sixes off the first three balls of the 20th over to help MI bag much-needed 2 points. It was the West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder who was on the receiving end of David's finishing brilliance. Holder did miss his length but the Australian cricketer dimissed all of them for massive sixes.
The result means Jaiswal's ton went in vain. Such was the left-hander's dominance in RR's innings in this game that no other batter even reached a score of 20. The second highest contributor in RR's total was the extras given by MI which was 25. In contrast, MI's batting effort had contributions from more than one batter but if it wasn't for David's hitting at the end, the match could have easily slipped away from them.
Arshad Khan was the pick of the bowlers for 3 for 39. In addition, Piyush Chawla finished with figures of 2 for 34 while Jofra Archer appeared to return close to his full rhythm eventually finishing with figures of 1 for 35.
For Rajasthan, Ravichandran Ashwin was superb with the ball, finishing with 2 for 27 while Sandeep Sharma (1 for 35) and Trent Boult (1 for 43) were the other wicket takers but it wasn't enough to restrict MI.
The match, which was the 1000th IPL game and Rohit Sharma's 150th as skipper, will also be remembered for a stunning catch by Sandeep Sharma to get rid of Suryakumar, an effort which many experts and commentators believe could win the catch of the tournament this season.
