David Warner Was Shocked On Hearing About His Captaincy Snub, Says Coach Tom Moody
David Warner was replaced by Kane Williamson as the SRH captain. Tom Moody confirmed that Warner did not take the news very gently.
IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad changed their captain before the game against Rajasthan Royals. In a recent interview, Tom Moody, the coach of SRH revealed that David Warner was “shocked” by this decision. The Hyderabad team management took a stern call to revoke Warner from his captainship duties and hand it over to Kane Williamson. It was told that the overseas combination was not suiting SRH and thus they needed to make the all-important change.
Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain was also the captain of the franchise in 2018 when he took the team to the final of the tournament. After their recent loss against CSK, the Sunrisers captain took full responsibility for the defeat. He said, “I take full responsibility for the way I batted, it was really slow, found a lot of fielders and I got frustrated. The way Manish batted was exceptional. Kane got us to a respectable total, but I take full responsibility as it was a total below par. I probably hit 15 good shots to the fielders, I couldn't do much about it.”
Let’s see what exactly did Tom Moody had to say:
"We had to make the hard call. Somebody has to miss out and unfortunately, it's him. He's shocked and disappointed. Anyone would be disappointed. He has come to terms with the logic behind what we want to achieve from a franchise's perspective," Moody said during a pre-match interview.
"He has rallied around the team and more importantly the team has rallied around him. I don't think what's happened in the past isn't as relevant and we have made some significant changes in the group in the last 24-48 hours."
Nonetheless, the decision of dropping Warner wasn’t very fruitful as Rajasthan Royals defeated SRH by 55 runs.
"He (David Warner) is not going to be playing in this game and that's purely a decision based on the combination. We've concluded that at this stage two overseas bat, an all-rounder, and Rashid Khan is our best combination. We looked at it very closely. Obviously, Bairstow's form and Williamson's form are at a great height and we are very thrilled with the way they are playing," Tom Moody concluded.
