‘Jahan Mamta Mili…’: When Shah Rukh Khan Told Kapil Sharma Why He Bought KKR
Shah Rukh Khan's humorous explanation for owning Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to Kapil Sharma, despite being from Delhi and residing in Mumbai has resurfaced in a viral video.
Shah Rukh Khan, one of the world's most iconic stars, has always been passionate about sports, particularly cricket. Therefore, when the Indian Premier League (IPL) debuted in 2008, he chose to invest in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Alongside co-owners Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta, he holds a stake in the franchise. Interestingly, an old video of Shah Rukh Khan sharing why he bought the team has been garnering wide social media attention recently.
In a viral video over 9 months old, renowned Indian comedian Kapil Sharma is heard questioning Shah Rukh Khan why he bought the Kolkata-based cricket team in Indian Premier League (IPL), despite hailing from Delhi and residing in Mumbai.
"Aap Dilli se ho, rehte Mumbai mei ho, cricket team aapne Kolkata ki li hui hai, why?" (You're from Delhi, you live in Mumbai, and you own a cricket team in Kolkata, why?), asks Kapil Sharma in the viral video.
SRK humorously explains that the basic reason for owning a cricket team in Kolkata is because in Delhi, one often has to distribute many free passes for matches which may result in less earning in Delhi. Additionally, he mentions that he wasn't allowed into the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and wasn't welcomed there. Therefore, he went to Kolkata where he felt a sense of warmth and support.
"Iska bohot basic reason hai, tumbhi smjhte hoge. Dilli mei kya hota hai, jabhi bhi koi show karo toh free passes bahut dene padte hai, tumne bhi bohot diye honge yaha pe. Idhar Dilli ke stadium mei kamaayi nahi hai. Wankhede mei ghusne nai dete, waha ghusaayi nahi hai. Toh jaha mujhe mamta mili mai waha chala gya." (The basic reason for this is, you'll also understand. In Delhi, whenever there is a match, you have to give out a lot of free passes, you must have also given many here. There's no earning potential in the stadium here in Delhi. They don't let you enter Wankhede, and there's no entry there. So, wherever I found warmth, I went there.)
