Sourav Ganguly To Be Sacked? Doubts Over Former India Captain's Role In Delhi Capitals With Hemang Badani, Venugopal Rao Set To Headline Support Staff
With Hemang Badani set to be the new DC head coach and Venugopal Rao likely to be the director of cricket, what happens to be Sourav Ganguly who currently holds the latter position?
Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Auction, all franchises have more or less finalised their support staff. And now it seems like the Delhi Capitals' search for a new support staff has also ended with the franchise set to go ahead with Hemang Badani as their head coach, as claimed in a report carried by Cricbuzz.
It is being learnt that Badani will take over as the head coach for at least the next two seasons. Meanwhile, Badani's former India teammate Venugopal Rao, is set to serve as the team's director of cricket, as claimed in the report which casts doubt over Sourav Ganguly's association with the same franchise. Notably, the two of them have long played together for MRF in the Chennai league and are known for their camaraderie and professional relationship.
The franchise has shown great faith in them and as claimed in the same report by the aforementioned website, they have been given the freedom to choose their own coaching staff. It is pertinent to note that Badani will be replacing Ricky Ponting, a massive name in international cricket circuit and someone who was with the team for seven years. However, the management has willingly decided to not go for big names. While Badani, former Tamil Nadu captain, has played four Tests and 40 ODIs for India, Venugopal donned the Indian colours in 16 ODIs.

Sourav Ganguly To Be Sacked As Director Of Cricket?
With Venugopal Rao set to take over as Director of Cricket, there is uncertainty over Sourav Ganguly's association with the franchise. Notably, the former India captain has been the Director of Cricket but a Telegraph report now claims that he will continue to serve in that capacity but only in the Women's Premier League. He will also be involved with the Pretoria Capitals in the South Africa T20 league. An official confirmation from the franchise is still pending.
