IPL 2021, DC Top Players: Top 5 Players To Look Out For In Delhi Capitals Squad In IPL 14

Delhi Capitals would look to go one step ahead this IPL after finishing as the runners-up in the final in 2020. Who are their top players this season?

Delhi Capitals reached the final of the 2020 Indian Premier League for the first time since 2008. The Delhi franchise always struggled since the first edition. According to many experts, the DC team in 2020 was the best the franchise ever had. It is not a small feat to end up only second to the Champions Mumbai Indians who have arguably been the best side in the IPL. A lot of the credit for DC’s success would go to its coach, Ricky Ponting for infusing confidence in the side. IPL 2020’s first half belonged to DC, but slowly their form deteriorated.

In the article, we look at the Top 5 players who are going to play in the Delhi Capitals side this season. Delhi is a team with a lot of youngsters and thus, one can expect the energies of the team to be high at all times. Who are these Top 5 Players, have a look:

Rishabh Pant: The 23-year old superstar deserves to be the top name in this list of best players in Delhi Capitals. His form, off-late has been anything but ordinary. He has taken the Indian team to victories from unimaginable positions. His attitude of playing Test match cricket signifies the ‘New India’ and the hunger to win games. Pant was criticized for being irresponsible but he has put a full stop to all his criticisms by performing in two most difficult campaigns for India. Pant has a strike rate of 151 playing in the IPL. He would be Coach Ricky Ponting’s important man to bat in the middle overs.

Shreyas Iyer: As mentioned earlier, DC has a very young squad. It can be clearly stated from the fact that DC has a 26-year old captain in the form of Shreyas Iyer. They made him the captain in 2019. Shreyas Iyer is a responsible batsman. A team needs someone like Iyer who can steady the ship while other players keep playing their shots.

Steve Smith: The man who captained Rajasthan Royals last IPL was released by RR ahead of the IPL Auction 2021. He was picked by DC at a bargain price of 2.2 crore rupees, which is slightly above his base price of 2 crore rupees. Although, there are speculations about his form, his presence in the team alongside Ricky Ponting would make the team dynamic fantastic. He has scored 2333 runs in IPL cricket.

Marcus Stoinis: He is a bona fide all-rounder for the T20 format. He can hit sixes, can bowl anytime in the innings as well as can also field like a live wire. The Aussie all-rounder has been playing in the tournament since 2015. His inclusion in the DC squad strengthens the Delhi team’s look on paper. He has 825 runs as a batsman in IPL and has also picked up 28 wickets in 46 matches. Stoinis can be a very strong player for the DC side.

Kagiso Rabada: He is a traditional fast-bowler who can bowl at a brisk pace and also bowl some bouncy deliveries. Not just that, he has proven to be a consistent wicket-taker in the IPL for DC. He has picked up 61 wickets in 35 matches he has played in the IPL. Being just a 25-year old, he fits in the DC’s philosophy of playing with a young side.

So, these were our Top 5 picks from the Delhi Capitals side. Many good players like Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Tom Curran and others were not included in the list based on the current form. Who would be your Top 5 Delhi Capitals player? Let us know.
