Bangladesh, Sri Lanka Players Could Face Shadow-Ban From Franchises In Future IPL Auctions: Report
IPL 2023: The Bangladesh players are set to be available for the window between April 9-May 5 and then from May 15.
In a major update coming in ahead of the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly unhappy with Sri Lanka Cricket and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This is because of the way the two boards have scheduled their international series and the delay on their part in providing No Objection Certificates (NOC) for their IPL-bound players.
It is pertinent to note that only three Bangladesh players are set to be part of the upcoming IPL season which kicks off on March 31. These are Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Litton Das. However, despite being few in number they won't be available for the entire tournament, missing the initial matches as well as a few matches in between due to international commitment.
The Bangladesh players will be available for the window between April 9-May 5 and then from May 15. It is being learnt that neither the BCCI nor the franchises will are too happy with the availability duration of the players.
“It is completely up to the players to convince their boards. England, New Zealand and other prominent boards have figured out a way to maintain the status quo. Nobody can deny the popularity of IPL and by releasing players, boards get their share as well. But if they decide otherwise, it is up to them,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport.
“But of course, franchises will be sceptical about picking players from certain countries. If you see, Taskin (Ahmed) did not get the NOC and now this. If they don’t want their players to play, they should not register. But, for sure, the perception about Bangladeshi players will change in future,” the official added as per the same report.
A bit similar is the case with Sri Lanka players, three of whom- Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana and Maheesh Theekshana are set to be available only after April 8.
