The all-rounder was released by the Punjab Kings before this year's auction. Last season, Punjab had acquired him for Rs 10.75 crore. The reason behind this was Maxwell's poor form both with the ball and bat.

Maxwell could score only 108 runs in 13 matches. He was in such bad form that he could not cross the fifty-run mark even once in the entire season. The biggest disappointment for him was the Aussie, famous for his hard-hitting, did not hit a single six off his bat in IPL 2021.

In the auction, there was a fierce bidding war between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. But in the end, RCB won the bet. Maxwell has been bought by the bangalore-based franchise at a price more than seven times his base price of two crores.

Social media flodded with tweets on the all-rounder after he was ropped in by RCB for a stunning amount of INR 14.25 crores, despite such bad outing in last year's IPL.

Maxwell's strike rate in the T20 has been more than 150.  He has hit an impressive number of 331 sixes and 529 fours.  In IPL too, he has scored 1505 runs off 82 matches with a remarkable strike rate of 154.67. This includes 91 sixes and 118 fours. In the Big Bash League's last season, Maxwell scored 379 runs in 14 matches with his bat.
