Yuvraj Singh Names His Pick To Lead Team India In Tests, Says 'Give Him Time & Don’t Expect Miracles'

Rohit Sharma, who currently leads team India across formats, is not getting any younger and India needs to now look for another captain for the coming years.

New Delhi: Indian cricket team's former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is convinced that young wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant can be groomed into a Test cricket captain. Currently, Rohit Sharma has been made the captain of the national team in all three formats. The 34-year-old is not getting any younger and team India needs to now look for another captain for the coming years and such a replacement should definitely be a young promising talent.

Speaking on Sports18's show 'Home of Heroes', Yuvraj said that Pant needs to be given time to develop as a captain. He said that the wicketkeeper-batsman's game has evolved over the years.

“You must get someone ready. Like Mahi became captain out of nowhere but they made him, right! Then he evolved,” Yuvraj said on Sports18. “Keeper is always a good thinker because he always has the best view on the ground,” added the 2011 ODI World Cup winner.

Yuvraj feels expecting ‘miracles’ straightaway from Pant won't the right thing.

“You pick a young guy who can be a future captain, give him time and don’t expect miracles in the first six months or a year. I feel you must believe in the younger guys to get the job done,” he added.

Yuvraj dismissed critics questioning Pant’s maturity. “I was immature at that age, Virat was immature when he was captain at that age. But he (Pant) is maturing with time,” said Yuvraj. “I don’t know how the support staff think about it, but I think he is the right guy to lead the Test team.”
