Two Overseas RCB Players Withdraw From IPL 2021 Citing 'Personal Reasons'
Reportedly, the severe second wave of Covid-19 in India have made few overseas players anxious despite BCCI's assurance of a safe bio-secure environment.
Royal Challengers Bangalore's star players Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson will fly back to Australia for "personal reasons" and will be unavailable for the remainder of IPL 2021. Their exit comes as India faces a grim situation with over millions testing positive for the dreaded Coronavirus in the past few days.
Reportedly, the severe second wave of Covid-19 in India have made few overseas players anxious despite BCCI's assurance of a safe bio-secure environment. Zampa has not played any game for RCB this year, while Kane Richardson featured in Bangalore's playing XI just once in IPL 14.
"Adam Zampa & Kane Richardson are returning to Australia for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of #IPL2021. Royal Challengers Bangalore management respects their decision and offers them complete support," RCB tweeted.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals' Andrew Tye had decided to fly back to home amidst growing concern due to spurt of Covid-19 cases in India. Delhi Capitals' R Ashwin too on Monday tweeted that he has decided to 'take a break' from IPL 14 to extend support to his family. With four wins from five games, Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently placed at third position in IPL 2021 Points Table.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald report, many Australian players are nervous about returning home safely after Australian government reduced the number of passengers arriving in Australia from India.
According to the report, many Australian players have asked to leave the tournament early as they fear they might be locked out of their own country due to serious surge in Covid positive cases in India.
