Shardul Thakur Expresses Disappointment On Missing Out Of India's T20 World Cup Squad
Shardul Thakur, who has played some brilliant innings with the bat, said that he wants to make a useful contribution to the lower order batting.
New Delhi: Team India's star all-rounder Shardul Thakur is 'disappointed' at not being picked in Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, but the Mumbai lad is looking to do better in the upcoming matches as he believes he still has a lot of cricket left in him. In the absence of Hardik Pandya, Shardul played a few T20 matches for India, but gave away runs at a run-rate of 9.15 runs per over.
"Of course, it's a big setback. Every player dreams to play in the World Cup, not just play but win it as well. Of course, it's a big setback. Every player dreams to play in the World Cup, not just play but win it as well. I'm not selected this time. But there's still a lot of cricket left and also there's the ODI World Cup next year. My focus will be to do well in whatever matches I play and make winning contributions," said Shardul during the press conference on eve of Ind vs SA 2nd ODI on Sunday.
Deepak Chahar's sudden injury has given a major blow to India's T20 World Cup campaign. Chahar was included in the list of reserve players and is now on the verge of being ruled out of the marquee event in Australia.
"If injuries happen then anyone can come at any point of time. As of now, your responsibility is to be ready whenever and wherever you're asked to play. I will be mentally ready if I'm given a call-up. That's all in my hands," added Shardul.
The pacer, who has played some brilliant innings with the bat, said that he wants to make a useful contribution to the lower order batting. In the first ODI against South Africa, he made India's return to the match with a 66-ball 93-run partnership with Sanju Samson in tough conditions. However, the team had to face defeat by nine runs.
