Ind vs NZ: R Ashwin Just A Wicket Away From Becoming 3rd Highest Wicket Taker For India In Tests

New Delhi: Team India's senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin attained another big achievement in Test cricket on Day 4 of India vs New Zealand 1st Test being played in Kanpur. The veteran had equaled the record of India's legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh when he took the wicket of Will Young in New Zealand's second innings.

Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh both now have 417 wickets in Test cricket and are jointly third highest wicket-takers for India in Test cricket. However, Ashwin will now have a chance to surpass Harbhajan Singh on the fifth day of the Kanpur Test.

As soon as Ashwin takes a wicket, he will push back Harbhajan to number four spot in the elite list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket from India.

Anil Kumble (619 wickets in 132 Tests) tops the list of highest wicket-takers in Test cricket from India. Kapil Dev (434 wickets in 131 Tests) is at number two in this list. In the ongoing Ind vs NZ 1st Test, Ashwin took 3 wickets in the first innings. With this, he surpassed Pakistan's Wasim Akram in the matter of taking most wickets in Tests.

Batting first, India scored 345 runs in their first innings. Shreyas Iyer starred with the bat as he scored 105 runs in his debut match for India. Tim Southee took the maximum 5 wickets for the Kiwis. Axar Patel's five-wicket haul had earlier helped India bowl out New Zealand for 296 runs in their first innings.
