Aakash Chopra Points Out The 'Big Difference' Between Joe Root And Virat Kohli
In the first three India vs England Tests, English skipper Root has scored 507 runs at an average of 126.75, including three centuries and a half-century, while Kohli has scored just 124 runs.
New Delhi: The ongoing five-match Test series between India and England has now become quite exciting. After India attained a sensational win over England in the second Test at Lord's, the hosts made a stunning comeback in the third Test at Leeds to level the series 1-1. The first Test played in Birmingham ended in a draw. India vs England fourth Test will be played at the Kingston Oval from September 2.
For England captain Joe Root has scored quite a lot of runs with his bat in the series, however, Indian skipper Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has not been able to pull off anything special in the series so far. In the first three India vs England Tests, English skipper Root has scored 507 runs at an average of 126.75, including three centuries and a half-century, while Kohli has scored just 124 runs.
Meanwhile, former India opener Aakash Chopra has talked about the difference between Kohli and Root.
“There is a difference in runs. Root has reached 725. I don’t know where he has reached; he is not stopping at all and is in a purple patch. Kohli is trying to figure out ways on how to score runs. It is not easy,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
“I feel confidence makes a huge difference, from where you are starting. India’s last Test series was against England in India; those were tough pitches, only Rohit Sharma could leave an impression as a batsman, a century each from Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin, but that’s about it,” he added.
“He (Joe Root) is in his own zone like Virat Kohli was in 2018. Every great player, who plays for a long time, will always go through such a phase sometime or the other where you will either get into a purple patch or you are just trying to figure out ways to score runs, sometimes ugly runs. That is what Virat Kohli is doing at the moment,” Chopra added further.
