Jaffer, who quit the post of coach of Uttarakhand after a dispute with the state association, has dismissed allegations of Uttarakhand Cricket Association officials that he favored Muslim players in the team.

When asked to comment on the controversy, the Test specialist said that he has no idea about it.

"Sir, I don't have an idea regarding this issue, what has happened, so I don't think that I should comment on this topic, because I don't have an idea," Rahane said at the virtual press conference ahead of Ind vs Eng Chennai Test.

Wasim Jaffer has played 31 Tests for India. The veteran resigned from the post of Uttarakhand team coach due to differences with the Uttarakhand Cricket Association. Reacting to the charges levelled against him by the secretary of the state association, he said," the communal angle that has been brought up is very, very sad."

"They accused me of favouring Iqbal Abdulla, I wanted to make him as the captain, which is completely wrong," Jaffar had said during a virtual press conference.

"I wanted to make Jay Bista the captain, but Rizwan Shamshad and the other selectors suggested that you make Iqbal the captain since he is senior player and has played IPL and is much older...I agreed to their recommendation."Jaffer said the team used to recite a chant of Sikh community to which he suggested they can say "Go Uttarakhand" instead.
