Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar questioned how many demerit points did ICC gave to the Gabba pitch, where a Test match between Australia and South Africa ended within two days.
"One thing I would like to know, there was this Test match in November in Brisbane Gabba, where the match finished in 2 days. How many demerit points did that pitch get and who was the match referee there," Gavaskar told India Today.
Hosts India were bowled out for mere 109 in first innings of Ind-Aus Indore Test. In reply, Australia scored 197 runs to get a solid 88-run lead. Australia's Nathan Lyon picked a match-winning eight-fer, taking full advantage of a spin-friendly track, to help his team bundle up India for 163 runs in their 2nd innings.
Chasing 76 for their maiden win in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia lost only a wicket before sealing a memorable win under stand-in skipper Steven Smith's captaincy. By virtue of this win, the visitors also qualified for WTC Final. Notably, this was the third Test match in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy which finished just inside three days.
Speaking on the pitch, Chris Broad said: “The pitch, which was very dry, did not provide a balance between bat and ball, favouring spinners from the start.

"The fifth ball of the match broke through the pitch surface and continued to occasionally break the surface providing little or no seam movement and there was excessive and uneven bounce throughout the match.”
Indore's Holkar Stadium has also received three demerit points after the match referee's assessment of the wicket. BCCI have 14 days to appeal against ICC's assessment.
