In the history of Indian cricket team, Washington Sundar is just the second player to score a half-century after taking 3 wickets in the first innings of his debut Test match. Former India player Dattu Phadkar did the same against Australia in 1947.
Surprisingly, Washington Sundar has not played any first-class matches since 2017. He has not been given a chance in first-class cricket by Tamil Nadu for the last 3 years but due to Ashwin's injury, Sundar got a chance to make his Test debut and he didn't fail to prove himself by making a significant impact.
The last and final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is being played between India and Australia at the Gabba ground in Brisbane. On the third day, the Indian innings was restricted to 336 runs. Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar scored half-centuries for India. Shardul Thakur scored the highest 67 runs among Indian batsmen, while Washington Sundar contributed with 62 runs. Both batsmen shared a stunning 123-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he picked five wickets. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 44 on the second day of Ind vs Aus Brisbane Test. Rahane (37), Mayank Agarwal (38) and Rishabh Pant (23) failed to score big. Washington Sundar got out after scoring 62 runs.
