IND vs NZ, 3rd T20I: Rohit Sharma Becomes 4th Indian Opener To Score 10000 International Runs

Rohit joined an elite list of former Indian opening greats in Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to have achieved the feat.

New Delhi: Indian opener Rohit Sharma became only the fourth Indian cricketer to scale the 10,000-run mark in international cricket as an opener. The prolific right handed batsmen achieved the feat during the third T20I against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Rohit joined an elite list of former Indian opening greats in Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to have achieved the herculean feat. The 'Hitman' reached the mark in the 6th over of the innings in style after slamming a six to achieve the record. Rohit who started off his international career as a middle order batsman in 2007, was promoted as an opener in 2013 ahead of the Champions Trophy in England, where he scored heavily with his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan to stake a strong claim in India's ODI playing XI. A seasoned opener in both forms of white ball cricket, Rohit was entasked to open for India in Test for the first time last year and delivered the goods by registering tons in both innings As an opener, Rohit has played in 77 T20Is, scoring 2326* runs. In ODIs, the Indian vice-captain has scored 7148 runs in 140 matches while opening the innings at an impressive average of 58.11. He also holds the current record for the highest individual score in the fifty-over format (264) - which he slammed as an opener against Sri Lanka.
