ICC Test Rankings: Steve Smith Dethrones Virat Kohli As No.1 Batsman

Australia's Steve Smith dethroned Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the number one batsman in Test cricket. Jasprit Bumrah dropped out from the Top 10 in the Test bowler's rankings.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli's horrid run with the willow in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand meant Australia's batting mainstay  Steve Smith dethroned the Indian skipper as the No. 1 Test Batsman in the World. Smith with 911 points has taken a five point lead over the Indian skipper who occupies the second spot with 906 points. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, Australia's in-form batsman Marnus Labuschagne and Pakistan batting mainstay Babar Azam round off the top five. Among the Indian batsman, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal occupy the 8th, 9th and 10th spot respectively. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim has risen five places to return to the top 20 after his double-century in Mirpur while captain Mominul Haque has moved up five places to 39th after a score of 132. Nayeem Hasan is the big news for the team with his nine wickets lifting him 29 places to 38th position among bowlers. Abu Jayed has moved up 11 places to 46th. This is the eighth time that Smith is on top of the rankings after first occupying the top position in June 2015. The last batsman apart from Smith and Kohli to be No 1 is New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, for an eight-day period in December 2015. India's frontline seamer Jasprit Bumrah dropped out of the Top 10 rankings among the bowlers after a rather lacklusture performance against Kiwis in the Wellington Test . Ace off spinner is the only Indian spinner to figure in the Top 10, sitting at No.9 with 765 points.
