Virat Kohli Reveals 'Dear Friend' Sunil Chhetri Informed Him Prior To Announcing Retirement From International Football- Watch

Virat Kohli reveals that Indian football icon Sunil Chhetri let him know before announcing his retirement from international football.

Virat Kohli revealed that Sunil Chhetri had informed him about his decision to retire from international football. 39-year-old star Indian footballer, Sunil Chhetri, announced on May 16 (Thursday) that he is set to retire from international football after the India vs Kuwait FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match on June 6 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Chhetri played his first international match against Pakistan on June 12, 2005 where he netted his maiden goal for India.

Team India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter, Virat Kohli, is known to share close friendship with Sunil Chhetri as they have been oftenly seen speaking to each other and interacting with each other on social media. RCB’s official social media handle uploaded a video called ‘RCB Insider Show’ featuring Virat Kohli in an interview with show’s host Danish Sait (Mr. Nags). Interacting with Sait, Kohli mentions that Chhetri let Kohli know about his retirement plans and that he was at peace with his decision to retire.

“He is a really dear friend. He actually messaged me as well, informing me that is going to do it, but I would say that he just felt like he is at peace with the decision. I have become really close with him over the years, and I wish him nothing but the best. He is a lovely-lovely guy,” Kohli mentions in the video.

Chhetri Is Third-Highest Goal-Scorer Amongst Active Football Players

Chhetri announced his retirement from international football in a video posted on his social media handles where he is talking about his football journey over the years. Chhetri's remarkable career concludes with a tally of 94 goals scored in 150 matches for the Indian national team. He also remains the highest goal scorer for India in the history of football. The veteran football player is also third on the list of active football players with the highest number of goals in the history of international football. He stands only behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
