Premier League: Declan Rice's Last Minute Goal Against Luton Helps Arsenal Solidify Top Spot
Luton’s Elijah Adebayo then came up with a second equalizer moments after half-time kudos to the first of Raya’s mistakes.
In the Premier League clash against Luton on Tuesday, Arsenal managed to move five points clear at the top of the table after Declan Rice’s goal helped them win the game 4-3. Earlier, Arsenal was trailing behind 3-2 on the back of a massive blunder from keeper David Raya at Kenilworth Road but then they made a brilliant comeback and sealed the top spot in the points table, kudos to Kai Havertz’s equalizer, and Rice’s header deep into stoppage-time.
“I’m so happy. We knew it would be a big battle here, we made it hard for ourselves the way we conceded the goals,” Arteta said.
“The spirit of the team, how we fought, showed our quality in the right moments and never gave up. We went for it and got our rewards today.
“Big compliments to Luton, it was a tough night. I’ve spoken with the team, and they are all jumping.”
Talking about the game, Gabriel Martinelli scored the first goal for Arsenal, with Luton’s Gabriel Osho equalizing and Gabriel Jesus restored the visitors’ advantage just ahead of half-time. Luton’s Elijah Adebayo then came up with a second equalizer moments after half-time kudos to the first of Raya’s mistakes.
But England’s midfielder Rice had other plans as he provided his team with a much-needed goal after he met Martin Odegaard’s cross with a header that ended up going in the far corner as Arteta was spotted dancing in joy on the touchline. Arsenal managed to push themselves as the winner and finished their spirited fightback in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
In another game played on Tuesday, Hwang Hee-chan claimed Wolves’ 1-0 win against Burnley at Molineux. Hwang scored his ninth goal of the season as he settled the affair in the 42nd minute of the game. Burnley remained the second-bottom team after facing the eighth loss in their last nine games, while Wolves, climbed to 12th place.
