Ahead of the start of the tournament, the University of Oxford has released a mathematical model that predicts Brazil is most likely to win the men's FIFA World Cup. The model created by Oxford Mathematics researcher Joshua Bull forecasts the Seleção to have a 14.72 per cent chance of winning the trophy this time.

Brazil is closely followed by Argentina and Netherlands in the list with 14.36 per cent and 7.84 per cent respectively. The model has predicted that Uruguay has the least number of chances of lifting the cup with 3.55 per cent.

Ten countries with the best chance of winning the World Cup - according to the Oxford model: Brazil - 14.72 per cent, Argentina - 14.36 per cent, Netherlands - 7.84 per cent, Spain - 7.03 per cent, France 6.37 per cent, Belgium - 6.31percent, Portugal - 5.60 per cent, Denmark - 4.94 per cent, Germany - 3.84 per cent, Uruguay - 3.55 per cent.

Nielsen, a company known for audience insights and data analytics, predicted Brazil has the highest chance of winning the World Cup this time. In the match-by-match predictions made by the data analytics company, it has predicted that Brazil and Belgium will clash with each other in the final for the ultimate trophy and Brazil has a 64 per cent chance of winning the match.

According to Nielsen's forecast, the Netherlands, Argentina, Spain, Brazil, England, France, Belgium, and Portugal will reach the quarterfinals. Talking about the semifinal matches, according to the forecast done by Nielsen-Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, and France have high chances of making the cut.

The predictions suggest that Brazil has a 54 percent chance of beating Argentina and Belgium also has a 54 percent chance of defeating France.
