This is the second time that a Euro Cup final match has resulted in a penalty shootout. After a 1-1 draw, Italy defeated England 3-2 in a penalty shootout to win the Euro 2020 championship.
In what turned out to be a pulsating final, Italy won the European Championships for the first time since 1968 after a penalty shootout victory over England at the iconic Wembley on Sunday. After a 1-1 draw, Italy defeated England 3-2 in a penalty shootout to win the Euro 2020 championship. It is the second time that Italy have won the title since 1968.
The start of the final match was excellent for England as Luke Shaw scored a goal in the second minute of the match to give the team a 1-0 lead. In the first half, the English team's defense played well and foiled every effort of Italy.
Leonardo Bonucci scored in the 67th minute of the match to bring Italy back into the game and level the score at 1-1. Bonucci also made a special record with this goal and he became the oldest player to score in the final match.
After this, no goal was scored from both the teams and neither Italy nor England could break into each other's defense even in 30 minutes of extra time.
This is the second time that a Euro Cup final match has resulted in a penalty shootout. Domenico Berardi, Federico and Leonardo Bonucci scored for Italy, while Harry Kane, Harry Maguire scored for England.
However, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jaden Sancho failed to get the ball into the goal post and with that England's dream of a second title to add to the 1966 World Cup win was also shattered.
