World Cup snub is not the end of the road for Pant: Sourav Ganguly

While a plethora of cricket pundits suggested that Pant would have been the better choice, former skipper Sourav Ganguly feels that the snub is not the end of the road for the young Delhi stumper

The selection of Dinesh Karthik of Rishabh Pant became the biggest talking point in the Indian cricket fraternity when the BCCI announced the 15-man World Cup Squad. While a plethora of cricket pundits suggested that Pant would have been the better choice, former skipper Sourav Ganguly feels that the snub is not the end of the road for the young Delhi stumper. The 21-year-old recently played a scintillating 36-ball 78 to power his team to a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals. After the game, he stated that the snub was in his mind. However, Ganguly, who is currently associated with Delhi Capitals as an advisor, backed Pant, saying he is just 21 and has nothing to worry. “Pant is a fantastic player. He is just 21 years old so there is nothing to worry He's got 15-16 years ahead of him. I don't see it as a major blow. I don't think it's a problem,” Ganguly said. Asked about not getting picked in the World Cup squad, Ganguly said, “There is no point talking about it. This is not the end of the road for him. He is only 21 years of age. I always stay with him and the players.” DC have been on a roll, currently placed second in the points table with 14 points in their kitty from 11 matches. Quizzed if he is the reason for the success, Ganguly said, “I don't play and it is not possible for me to do it alone. It is always the players who are responsible.” Asked to pick his teams for the semis, Ganguly said Australia and West Indies are doing really well lately.
