During their stay in Kolkata for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the Pakistan cricket team will be adhering to a strict diet plan, with no room for their beloved biryani. The Pakistan players arrived in Kolkata on a Saturday evening and are gearing up to face Bangladesh in a crucial match at the iconic Eden Gardens on Tuesday, October 31. The Pakistani team are going through a challenging phase, having lost four consecutive games in the ongoing tournament .
According to a report by The Telegraph Online, the Pakistan cricket team's diet now mainly consists of Mediterranean kebabs, eggs, and proteins. The hotel chef, where the Pakistan players are accommodated, mentioned, "They are following a particular diet chart now. At breakfast, they are having mostly eggs and proteins. Alongside that, Mediterranean kebabs and other such dishes are among items we're preparing for them."
Interestingly, it seems the Pakistan players have chosen to abstain from biryani while in Kolkata, given their current situation. A member of the Pakistan contingent explained, “With the team in such a situation, how can we have biryani? We'll see later in the tournament. The media also gave so much of hype to biryani."
Despite their challenging cricketing situation, the Pakistan players are enjoying their time in Kolkata. Iftikhar Ahmed expressed his delight, saying, "Feels very nice having come to Kolkata," and opener Fakhar Zaman echoed the sentiment, stating, "Feeling great being here."
Pakistan had a promising start to the ODI World Cup 2023 with two victories, but they faced a series of defeats against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. In their previous encounter, they came close to beating South Africa but lost by just one wicket. With three matches left in the competition, Babar Azam's team need to win all of them and hope for favourable results in other teams’ matches to have an outside chance of making it to the semifinals. The last time Pakistan played at Eden Gardens was during the 2016 T20 World Cup.
