World Cup 2019: Sarfraz 'teases' Team India on the name of Champions Trophy 2017 defeat!
“We will seek inspiration from our Champions Trophy win because then also we were losing and then lifted ourselves at the right time to win the trophy,” Sarfaraz told during a media interaction.
The memories of ICC Champions Trophy 2019 final are still fresh in the minds of every Indian cricket fan. The men-in-blue, who then entered the finalé as favourites, experienced as one of the worst defeats in the hands of Pakistan that left the entire country heart-broken.
Since then, both the nations faced each-other thrice (during the Asia Cup 2018) on the field and each time, India came up with flying colours. And now, the arch rivals will once again be facing each other in an ICC event i.e., Cricket World Cup 2019.
It’s a known fact that India have never lost a match to the neighbours in the history of World Cups. The story started back in 1992 and since then, we have won six out of six clashes in the marquee event. Before locking horns for the 7th time, the things have changed drastically down the line.
While the Indians are spending a gala time under Kohli’s reign, Pakistan have lost their past ten one-day internationals including a 5-0 whitewash by Australia and 4-0 thumping by England. Moreover, their problems were further escalated when they were outclassed by Afghanistan in a warm-up match.
However, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed hopes his side will draw inspiration from when they were in a similar position in 2017.
“We will seek inspiration from our Champions Trophy win because then also we were losing and then lifted ourselves at the right time to win the trophy,” Sarfaraz told during a media interaction.
“The boys are motivated and are eager to put these losses behind them and by playing in England for a month we are well prepared and you will hopefully see us doing well,” said Sarfaraz.
On the other hand, India would be keeping a close eye to the tumbling Pakistani bowling. All the big names including Amir and Shaheen Afridi failed against the Afghans. It was only Wahab Riaz who kept the nerve and delivered an economical spell, scalping three crucial wickets.
But above all, it will be a thrilling encounter when all eyes will be glued to the TV screens when India and Pakistan meet at the Old Trafford, Manchester on June 16.
