On an extremely hot day at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the European sides find it tough to survive out there. Restricting Scotland Women to merely 109, the English Women bowlers did their job as they needed a huge win to boost their Net Run Rate.
The openers did the job for them as Maia Bouchier and Danielle Wyatt scored impressive half-centuries to chase down the target in just 60 balls.
"Yeah I thought really good. Batting with Danni is always good. We have an unspoken communication between us. We thought if we could back our strengths and hit down the ground, we can take the side to the victory. We thought in the eighth over about the net run rate. It is important in these type of tournaments. It was a great effort from the bowlers to keep them down," said Maia Bouchier, who was awarded the Player of the Match.
"We want to take that trophy. We are thinking about what is happening at the present moment. We don't want to think about what is happening around. Just keep an eye on it. But enjoy the present moment. It was important for me to go out there and stay still. I kept telling myself to back my skills and play positively. Danni kept reminding me as well. It was important for me to back my skills," she added.
Here's What Both Captains Said During Post-Match Presentation Ceremony
Kathryn Bryce (Scotland Women Captain):
"It was a tough tournament for us but it was an honour to come here and be a part of it. Lot of learnings from this. The learnings are that we have to do the basics right. It's always challenging when you play at a different stadium against different teams. The girls are gradually getting used to that. It's been incredible. The parents are here always cheering and supporting us. She's been playing for Scotland for 18 years. It was pretty special to celebrate her career. She has played a huge part in this Scotland cricket's journey and it was really special to play alongside her."
Heather Knight (England Women Captain):
"Ya pretty pleased. I think the pitch got better. I think we bowled brilliantly and we got the results. Maia Bouchier and Wyatt-Hodge both are very experienced and have stepped up in big stages for us. The target was to win it with a better NRR but they have done well to secure the victory. We talked about going over SA and the credit goes to the duo for batting brilliantly. There was nothing wrong from the bowlers in the middle. Pretty pleased with the bowlers. Sophie was brilliant in her spell. Linsey was replaced by Bell as we wanted to check how Bell performs and she was outstanding. We have a game left in the tournament. Our simple formula has been to take one game at a time. We want to take the momentum going, that's it."
