2004 was the year when a 21-year-old boy named Lasith Malinga created a buzz overnight with his sling bowling action. His unconventional way of bowling favoured him deliver some lethal Yorkers that left the batsmen baffled as they couldn’t see the ball but saw their stumps flying in the air afterwards. 15 years down the line since Malinga’s rise, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has unearthed his bowling doppelganger in the form of Matheesha Pathirana. A 17-year-old boy who has an identical slinging action and faces no problem in delivering some deadly Yorkers. The world saw Pathirana bowling when a video of his stunning spell for Trinity College went viral on social media. It was his debut match for his college where the young Sri Lankan pacer rammed into the opposition batting and picked up six wickets for seven runs. Here is a highlight video of Pathirana wreaking havoc: It’s clearly visible that the batters are having a tough time as they are clueless about the lengths of his deliveries as they end up getting losing their wickets. The teenage bowling sensation has already made into the Sri Lanka U-19 for a Provencial tournament.
