Virat Kohli Drops Out Of Top 20 In ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings For The First Time In A Decade
Virat Kohli, who was ranked sixth in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings before the IND vs NZ series now finds himself out of the top 20 for the first time since 2014.
Virat Kohli dropped out of the top 20 in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings for the first time in the last 10 years. Kohli hit the 10-year-old low after his poor performance with the bat continued in the recently concluded India vs New Zealand Test series, which India lost by 0-3. India faced their first-ever 3-0 defeat in Tests at home in the history of Test cricket.
Virat Kohli, who was ranked sixth in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings before the IND vs NZ series now finds himself on the 22nd spot. After the first Test, Kohli dropped down two places to eighth, and after the 2nd IND vs NZ Test, Kohli was 13th in the rankings. However, after the third and the final IND vs NZ Test, Kohli dropped down to 22 in the Test batting rankings.

Kohli Drops Out Of Top 20 In Test Batting Rankings For First Time In 10 Years
In the IND vs NZ series, the former India captain could only make 93 runs in six innings at an average of 15.50 with one half-century to his name, one of his worst performances in a home Test series.
Kohli, who celebrated his 36th birthday on Wednesday, last dropped out of the ICC's top 20 Test batters in December 2014. That downturn for Kohli followed a difficult tour of England, where he managed just 134 runs across five Tests, averaging just 13.4.
In August 2014, Kohli dropped to 21st in the ICC Test rankings, holding that spot until India's next series. However, after scoring twin centuries in the 2014 Adelaide Test, he surged to 16th and began a steady rise. Although he briefly fell to 20th in 2016 and 2023, he remained above that rank until now. From November 2016 to August 2021, Kohli consistently ranked in the top 5 and returned to 6th in January 2024 after a dip out of the top 10 in March 2022.
Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the only two Indian batters who are in the top 10 in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings.
