Virat Kohli dropped out of the top 20 in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings for the first time in the last 10 years. Kohli hit the 10-year-old low after his poor performance with the bat continued in the recently concluded India vs New Zealand Test series, which India lost by 0-3. India faced their first-ever 3-0 defeat in Tests at home in the history of Test cricket.

Kohli Drops Out Of Top 20 In Test Batting Rankings For First Time In 10 Years

In the IND vs NZ series, the former India captain could only make 93 runs in six innings at an average of 15.50 with one half-century to his name, one of his worst performances in a home Test series.

Kohli, who celebrated his 36th birthday on Wednesday, last dropped out of the ICC's top 20 Test batters in December 2014. That downturn for Kohli followed a difficult tour of England, where he managed just 134 runs across five Tests, averaging just 13.4.

In August 2014, Kohli dropped to 21st in the ICC Test rankings, holding that spot until India's next series. However, after scoring twin centuries in the 2014 Adelaide Test, he surged to 16th and began a steady rise. Although he briefly fell to 20th in 2016 and 2023, he remained above that rank until now. From November 2016 to August 2021, Kohli consistently ranked in the top 5 and returned to 6th in January 2024 after a dip out of the top 10 in March 2022.

Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the only two Indian batters who are in the top 10 in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings.

4 Yashasvi Jaiswal 777
6 Rishabh Pant 750
