Round-up of Group C in the second round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy

Delhi vs Saurashtra

Delhi got the better of Saurashtra with a five-wicket win in a high-profile Group B match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi.

Batting first, Saurashtra, who were without the services of Ravindra Jadeja because he was included in India’s Asia Cup squad, were bowled out for 237 in 49.3 overs. Sheldon Jackson (62), Cheteshwar Pujara (53)and Arapit Vasavada (50) scored half-centuries.

In reply, Delhi chased down the target in 46 overs as young Himmat Singh remained unbeaten on 77 off 93 balls.

Top Performer: Delhi’s young medium pacer Subhodh Bhati picked five wickets in an outstanding spell of bowling. Bhati literally ran through the Saurashtra middle order in his 7.3 overs to return with career-best figures of 5 for 24

Star Watch: A lot was expected from India’s Test wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant but he disappointed, getting out stumped for 8 off 11 balls. Captain Gautam Gambhir, on the other hand, played a crucial knock of 62 off just 40 balls to lay the foundation of the chase.  

 

Chhattisgarh vs Madhya Pradesh

Chhattisgarh thrashed Madhya Pradesh by 122 runs in their Group B match at Palam B stadium in New Delhi.

Batting first, Chhattisgarh put on 268 for 7 and then bowled out Madhya Pradesh for 146 in 38.2 overs. Opening bowlers Pankaj Rao and Shahnawaz Hussain picked three wickets apiece.

Top Performer: Chhattisgarh captain Harpreet Singh was the top-scorer with a superb 91-run knock. He missed his hundred after being getting bowled to Mihir Hirwani. His innings was laced with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

 

Odisha vs Andra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh registered an easy six-wicket win over Odisha in another Group B match at Palam A in New Delhi.

India’s out of favour leggie Karn Sharma picked up three wickets for 29 runs in his 10 overs to restrict Odisha for a paltry 184 in 50 overs. In reply, Andhra reached home in 47.1 overs with opener Ashwin Hebbar playing anchor with 92 off 130 balls.
