England top order batsman Jonathan Trott has announced his retirement from first class cricket putting an end to an 18-year-long career. Trott will however, complete the current season with Warwickshire.

Known to be a ‘planner’, making decisions after considerable thinking behind it, Trott’s decision to retire at the end of the season, with more than four months of cricket still to go, surprised none.

"Choosing to retire at the end of the season is something that I have spoken about at length with my family and this is now the right time to look at the next chapter of my career," Trott said.

Trott, born in South Africa, has represented Warwickshire for 18 long seasons.

"Warwickshire CCC is a very special club and I've been immensely proud to have worn the Bear & Ragged Staff throughout my career. We've made a strong start to the 2018 season and I hope that I can make a major contribution to more success in my final year at Edgbaston as a player."

Trott was considered as one of the best No. 3 batsmen to have played for England. Not known to be crowd puller, Trott was immensely effective with his grinding style of play that won  England many matches including three Ashes.

The South Africa born cricketer, who represented the Proteas even at the U-19 level moved to England at an early stage of his career and has represented the Three Lions in 52 Tests and 68 ODIs.

Trott, who made his Test debut against Australia in 2009, immediately grabbed attention with a sparkling century at Oval. Since then he has been rated very highly by then England head coach Andy Flower, who described him as a rock of England.

Trott amassed 3835 runs in Test cricket at an average of 44.08 and he did even better in ODIs, scoring 2819 runs at an average of 51.

The Right-hander played his last Test for England in 2015 against the West Indies.
